Electric utilities have the goals of both promoting energy efficiency (EE) and reducing peak load through Demand Response (DR) programs. But in many companies, the two programs are in different silos, both from an organizational perspective and technically. BuildingIQ offers one of the few technologies that can help electric utilities accomplish both goals.
The solution supports energy efficiency goals by helping commercial customers reduce their air conditioning use on a daily basis. It also supports EE goals of reducing daily energy use.
In addition, if there is a DR event, the system automatically listens for the signal and responds. Based on predetermined customer inputs, the system will tell the building to shed further during a DR event. It uses advanced precooling methodologies and other strategies to ensure that tenants remain comfortable, and monitors buildings at all times to ensure temperatures remain within acceptable bounds.
NV Energy, the Investor Owned Utility (IOU) of Nevada was searching for a technology partner to help them reduce their peak load during the hottest hours in the summer months. They also wanted to implement Energy Efficiency programs to help lower demand on a daily basis.
