Successful integration reduces operation costs and extends the life of existing BMS in Cambridge, Massachusetts office space
San Francisco – December 3, 2013 – BuildingIQ, a leading energy management software company, and The S4 Group today announce the successful incorporation of their technologies to identify unique energy savings for a commercial office space in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The S4 Open BACnet-N2 Router provided the enabling technology that tapped into the existing Metasys® N2 legacy system, while BuildingIQ’s Predictive Energy OptimizationTM software extracted key data on the efficiency of the building’s operations. As a result, the two companies were able to reduce operation costs and seamlessly integrate HVAC energy optimization in a commercial building with an older infrastructure.
The incorporation of the S4 Open BACnet-N2 Router and BuildingIQ’s cloud-based solution was completed within just one hour, without interruption or modification of ongoing performance. Prior to implementation of these solutions, the BMS’ local system integrator would need to manually make adjustments to the system’s hardware. Now that the system is using BACnet communications, the building automation industry’s primary open standard with S4, BuildingIQ’s cloud-based solution is able to make real-time adjustments to building controls to maximize efficiency during heating and cooling operations. The installation was achieved with zero impact to occupant comfort and has reduced labor costs by eliminating the need for manual modifications to the system.
“This project demonstrates an application of the S4 Open appliances as a non-disruptive data collection agent enabling the cost effective implementation of BuildingIQ technologies and services to improve building performance of legacy buildings,” said Steve Jones, managing partner of the S4 Group. “In this application S4 provided the data collection functionality, while allowing the Metasys® supervisory controller and operator workstation to continue operating in parallel to BuildingIQ services.”
“Technology is rapidly evolving in the energy management industry and it is important to be able to provide a solution that can integrate into existing BMS systems that might not be utilizing the latest upgrades available,” said Derek Johnson, VP Global Operations of BuildingIQ. “In this collaboration with S4, we are able to extend the capabilities of existing energy management solutions, making them more flexible and opening the door to new energy saving opportunities.”
